Picture of a Zol

The Legend of Zelda

First appearance:

The Legend of Zelda

Zol is a minor, recurring enemy in the Zelda franchise.

Zol is a minor enemy that mainly reside in dungeons and caves. However, in later games, Zols can be encountered in the overworld as well.

A Zol has a simple blob-like physiology. Despite this, they can be injured by absolutely anything, including strikes from weapons and blunt forces. When they are injured, they may split into two smaller beings, known as Gels. Some attacks, however, can cause a Zol to die when struck, rather than split off into Gels.

A Zol Splitting Into 2 Gels

Zols are inherently hostile towards the player, but seem to wander around at random despite this. When injured, they may split off into two smaller, somewhat faster, Gels.

Zols do not normally possess any abilities besides being able to bump into people and splitting into Gels.

However, in Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, and Phantom Hourglass, Zols can attach themselves to the player. This does no damage, rather, it will slow the player down until they are knocked off.

Physical AppearanceEdit

Zols look like simple blobs with eyes on the top. They come in a variety of colors, including: Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, and Black.

Gels lose the eyes and are much smaller, but still bear the basic blobby appearance and color.
